Guest Artist: AG Jewels

Guest Artist: AG Jewels

Four times a year, we welcome a new visiting guest local artist into Riverside Collective. Our Spring guest artist (in residence April-June) is local jewelry artist, Ava of AG Jewels. We caught up with Ava to ask a few questions about her process and her art:

What inspires your art?

Spending time around people of all different styles and personalities really inspires me to create pieces that people feel are personal to them and myself as well.

How does Saxapahaw influence your art?

Saxapahaw has been my home for 19 years, and growing up here has allowed me to learn so much about myself and others, and inspires me to create art that I feel also represents the village and its community.

If you were to speak for your art, how would you fill in these prompts?

I feel…creative

I need…expression

I am…unique

What’s your favorite tool and why?

Wire because it can be transformed into so many different ways.

What’s one thing that someone who isn’t a jewelry artist wouldn’t know about what you do?

It takes a lot of time and creativity to create unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. There is a lot of thought and passion that goes into every single piece.

Are you a rebel with your art in any way? How does that make it better?

Yes, I love taking risks and trying to do things no one has seen before to add to the personality of my business.
